Broadcast Journalism

Mission: Through projects and cooperative learning students will learn the techniques to communicate accurately and efficient to a mass audience using standard technologies.

Course Description: Students will be responsible for creating, researching, a Interview based on important events and youth issues for their GM Computer class.

The class will explore various journalistic approaches, and produce their own Interview segment they will evaluate their show’s effectiveness at informing the students about their chosen topic.

Big Idea: Students are responsible for producing a Interview segment based around world/youth issues. Students are responsible for all aspects of preproduction and live production including script writing, segment creation, and on/off air production work.

Students will understand the importance of working cooperatively to plan, research, create, and produce a news interview in a way that is both entertaining and informing.

Students are challenged on regular basis

to think creatively and use the skill from other classes to create projects that incorporate the skills

developed in other areas of their education.

Technology: Through the use of many technological innovations students have an enormous

exposure to technology. We use Mac computers running many different levels of video and graphical

editing software. Students operate video cameras, live production equipment and

audio systems throughout the class experience.

 

GRADING/ASSESSMENTS

Grading will be broken down into four categories:

- Projects are worth 20% of the grade

- Participation is worth 10% of the grade

- Accountability is worth 10% of the grade
